Why I QUIT My College RA Job (Mental Health Story Time)

When I was hired as a college RA for a freshman dorm, I was excited! I’ve always been a big sister and always sought out leadership roles. I figured being an RA was the PERFECT job for me.
After two months of living, eating, sleeping, schooling, and breathing my RA job 24/7, I realized…it wasn’t what I thought it would be, and I wasn’t happy.
The stress of classwork (organic chemistry…), busy schedules, floor program planning, insomnia, untreated anxiety and depression, an ear infection, and more, built up until I realized I was MISERABLE.
Something had to change.
So, I quit.
That semester (Fall 2016! 4 years ago!) was without a doubt my most rock-bottom, crash-and-burn moment of my college career.
But afterwards, I started to really realize how I learn, what I’m good at, what I want, what makes me happy, and how to get those things for myself!
Of course, therapy helped, too.
This episode tells my story—what happened, what I learned, and how I am WHO I am, because of it all.
